The Artnueve Gallery is pleased to present the first solo show of the artist Santiago Reyes Villaveces in Spain and the first Artistic Residency for us.
Patria Boba by the Colombian artist Santiago Reyes Villaveces has as its starting point the historical category La Patria Boba. The exhibition flirts with colonial relations, however, not with conquest. In the history of Colombia, the period between 1810 and 1816 is called by historians La Patria Boba; In this period, New Granada, today Colombia, Venezuela and Panama, degoverned from the Spanish Empire. This period is governed by internal disputes, anti-colonial reforms and identity constructions, which in the opinion of modern historians were a matter of fools.
The exhibition unfolds a chapter of colonial history into a contemporary circulation, where there are hidden meanings and metaphors that are still being articulated today.
This project is part of the first International Artistic Residence of the Artnueve Gallery. Reyes Villaveces, has worked for three weeks in Murcia connecting his research with the Murcian context.
The project is curated by Jesús Alcaide.
