La linea del ingenio is a group exhibition, curated by Lekha Hileman Waitoller, in which the artist Prudencio Irazabal participates. The exhibition will be available from June 11, 2021 to February 6, 2022 at the Guggenheim in Bilbao 2021.
La linea del ingenio presents a selection of works that are characterized by their humorous, experimental, intelligent and inquisitive nature. These pieces, which date from the 1950s to the present, are conceived with unusual materials and techniques, disrupting aesthetic conventions in a playful way, with wit and insight. The exhibition brings together artists of various generations who work with different media and includes very significant pieces from the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection that have hardly been exhibited, along with other well-known ones. The combination of the high and the popular, the ordinary and the sublime, the serious and the ironic runs through the exhibition, challenging the hierarchies on which fine arts are founded.
Organized thematically, La linea del ingenio is structured in three sections that address the experimental nature of artistic creation through a cohesive set of works by significant contemporary and post-WWII authors.
La linea del ingenio presents a body of works belonging to different styles and movements, the themes of which are tackled by specifically resorting to the insightful, the experimental, and different artistic practices. In dialogue with each other, the works offer the possibility to appreciate the key decisions made by their authors when choosing their materials and techniques, as a reflection of their various artistic methodologies and individual processes.
