Taped Paintings is Kirsten Hutsch’s first solo exhibition at the gallery and takes its title from the same process she uses during art creation.

The ultimate goal of the work of Kirsten Hutsch (1974, Netherlands) is to reach a kind of zero degree of art, in which the historical contingency of the meaning of the work and its inevitable ambiguity is replaced, once and for all, by the naked material presence of the object.

Taped Paintings explores the plastic and functional possibilities of a commonly used object such as adhesive tape.

The procedure that guides this last series, as direct as it is acute, consists of holding one or more blank canvases of different sizes, remaining one on top of the other, with different types of adhesive tape. The ways of constructing the pieces are multiple, ranging from the reference to the painting of the first avant-gardes to the translation of digital scribbles made on the iPad, passing through paintings taped in a more spontaneous and precarious way.

In all these works the adhesive tape has a double nature: it is a functional element that literally holds the canvases, but it is also a plastic element that organizes the composition.
