Monument to Disenchantment

Our artist Pablo Capitán del Río takes part in a collective project that links the Pompidou Center in Malaga and the Russian Museum for the first time with works inspired by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the Los Guindos chimney.

The monument is in charge of exalting characters or events in the public space, proposing them as an example or collective reference. The materialization of the monument depends, therefore, on the existence of leaders and great political-social projects that are more or less exciting, more or less desirable, but, after all, capable of catching the masses.

Pablo Capitán’s piece is a reproduction of the object known as Chernobyl’s “Elephant’s Leg”, a radioactive mass that, after the explosion of reactor 4 of the nuclear plant, melted 4 meters of reinforced concrete until it appeared in one of the galleries. underground cooling.
