Presentation of the biography of Juan Genovés.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the death of the artist Juan Genovés, a biography of his life has been published: “Juan Genovés. Citizen and painter”.

Pablo Genovés and the authors of the book will make the presentation at the Antonio Machado bookstore on June 15 at 7:00 pm (Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid).

“Juan Genovés. Citizen and painter” is the story of a passionate life dedicated to art.

One year after the death of Genovés in the midst of the pandemic, this biography vindicates his transformative and combative role in both art and politics, with a tireless dedication to his work as a “worker of his trade”, guided by his deep democratic convictions and his civic conscience.

This essay is the result of a “workshop” work that the three authors (Mariano Navarro, Armando Montesinos and Alicia Murría) have developed, not without difficulty, after compiling archival materials, publications, statements, and above all interviews and conversations with the painter himself, his family and his entourage.

The artist in the first person, in many cases, describes his life, his concerns, his achievements and his frustrations throughout the book, making it a hybrid between biography and autobiographical account.
