The artist Álvaro Albaladejo, finalist of the Cervezas Alhambra Emerging Art Award

The artist Álvaro Albaladejo is one of the finalists of the Cervezas Alhambra Emerging Art Award, a recognition with which the Alhambra brand awards, for the sixth consecutive year, the best emerging artists of national scope in the framework of ARCOmadrid 2022 and whose works have been created through a process of artisanal production reinterpreted in a contemporary key.

Álvaro Albaladejo has devised Armadura, a work inspired by Mudejar coffered ceilings, sky domes and star maps. The piece brings together constant concerns in Albaladejo’s work, as working with artisans at different stages of the creative process is common in his dynamics.

It is a sculpture that functions as an installation inspired by the alfarje or Mudejar coffered ceiling construction system by assembling wood. The piece is presented vertically, frontal to the viewer hanging on the wall, approaching the idea of the wonder and containment of the universe of the ancient world.

Álvaro Albaladejo is competing for the Cervezas Alhambra Emerging Art Award along with four other finalists.

His work will be exhibited at ARCOmadrid 2022 between February 23 and 27. A jury, made up of art experts with a great trajectory within the national and international art scene, will be in charge of choosing the winner of this sixth edition next Thursday, February 24.
