Negro hueso is the title of the first exhibition that the artist Manuel M. Romero (Seville, 1993) made for the Artnueve gallery. After participating in the collective exhibition Another hermetic double curated by Jesús Alcaide, the artist will present in this exhibition a series of works in which he continues his research on painting itself, its processes and the way it is constructed as an object each time more self-referential.

Weather. Stratum. Vibration. Manuel M. Romero’s paintings hide the gesture and delay the image. An all-absorbing black. A black that refers us to an end of the painting that never comes. A black made of yellow, green, blue strokes. A black man who, as Derek Jarman wrote in Croma, “dissolves form.”

Black bone that reminds us of that time when “the skulls of more than thirty million bison slaughtered in the North American prairies were collected one by one by poor peasants and Indians, to be sold to the North Dakota Bone Union, which they were piled up to form a pile the size of a church before transporting them to the factory that milled them to produce fertilizer and black-bone, the darkest pigment that could be found at that time ”.

Black erasing the white. Black that suspends the image. Black who seeks the limit by embracing the painting process itself. Bone black, “blue of a night without fear of day.”
